A USC Annenburg Women in Animation Study conducted in 2019 reported that Only 4 Women of Color worked as Film or TV Directors across 120 top animated films and 100 episodes or segments of top animated TV series. 0 were Black.

That fact has not changed to date.

As a mission-driven studio, BWA is a team of millennial and Gen Z content creators actively working to shift the demographic makeup of animation professionals in high level positions.

​

In everything we do, BWA does the imperative work of hiring, managing, and advancing diverse talent. That includes thoughtfully advancing hard skills and sharpening professional etiquette with on-the-job training. 

​

Now, we are launching The Equity Excelerator (E2) to solve for the lack of inclusion of Black and diverse talent in animation by amplifying and scaling BWA’s multi-pronged approach to content creation and production.

​

Operating alongside our studio services, the E2 program broadens opportunities and builds pathways for emerging and mid-career animation creators. E2 expedites meaningful inclusion in animation through software training, building business acumen, empowerment, and mentorship that gets talent ready to work on animated commercial, tv, and film productions.

Because the records of Black women in animation are sorely lacking, we will document our innovations, production workflows, artist profiles, goal progress, and herstory in an annual E2 Impact Report. As our pioneering Inclusion in animation efforts grow, our Impact Report will track our global footprint with qualitative and quantitative data, providing insights into how we created and continue to scale our equity blueprint for the entertainment industry.
